I'm excited to announce that my 1st book, "MISFIT...Dealing with our God given discomfort" came out last week internationally through Zondervan.

I can't wait to see what God does through this book. I'm also excited to announce that next tuesday, May 17th "MISFIT The Soundtrack" will be released to accompany the experience.

The Leader i could be...

I read a blog post today "The Leader I don't want to be..." by my good friend Chad Veach, as soon as i read the article it resonated w/ me & brought conviction to me immediately.

I know I have been guilty of being an "INCONSISTENT, EXAGGERATING, SELF-PROMOTING, THINK I CAN DO IT ON MY OWN, MAKING MOUNTAINS OUT OF MOLE HILLS" type of LEADER. I need to change & keep that foolish side of me in check.

I'm sorry to anyone that has seen this side of me.

Its hard to realize that you can easily become the very thing you despise but the first step in change is admitting it, right?

So here i go.

As MISFITS there are things in this world that make us UNCOMFORTABLE, but we don't want to REMAIN uncomfortable, we want to do something about it! NEXT FRIDAY March 26th, We changed the location of our 1st Youth Explosion of the year. We, YOUTH EXPLOSION partnered up w/ ICF & GOD BELONGS IN MY CITY to deal w/ some of the things that make us UNCOMFORTABLE! ON Friday, March 26th from 4pm-6pm we will meet in front of Christ Tabernacle (64-34 Myrtle Ave, Glendale NY 11385) & march thru Queens & Brooklyn in a SILENT PROTEST. We want to raise awareness about "Gang Violence" and let the GANGS know that were uncomfortable with THEIR ACTIVITIES. Were not only praying for them to disarm but also for them to give their LIVE ON OVER TO GOD!

Then after that we will be "Christ The King" High School for a "Students vs Celebrities" Basket Ball GAME! FREE ENTRY. Da T.R.U.T.H. does it again. This video is great and the message is powerful both visually & lyrically. When he did this song live at The Aftershock a couple a weeks for his album release it was crazy. We stood on the song for about 20 minutes because it catapulted us into a time of worship. Tia Pittman is singing on the hook of the song, and if you don't know about her google her once your done watching this video. She is incredible and one of my favorite people to rock with. I'm excited because Da TRUTH will be with us Friday Nov 27th for our Youth Explosion's 13 YR anniversary: "H*LY M!&F!T". More info to come on that later. Not Enough Words... "Leah Smith"

This Past Friday Sept 11th Youth Explosion presented a special night for the young adults, "After-Hours". The night was a huge success and a great time of community with friends. We had one of my favorite speakers, Ralph Castillo share a thought. One word to describe it, Phenomenal. Also we had musical genius "Leah Smith" showcase songs from her upcoming "Beautifully Made EP". Coincidentally she was written up on www.IntellectualSoul.com a few days later. Leah was featured in their "Music Monday" segment. The article gave great reviews but w/ all do respect to the columnist, words can not express Leah's brilliance. The spread also featured 2 brand new songs off her upcoming EP, "Beautifully Made" & "Shieldes & Swords".

Since Leah is such a great girl i actually had her sing "Beautifully Made" at "The Aftershock" this past Friday right before my thought. She made my job easy. I know what your thinking but "The Aftershock" was right before "After-Hours", Yup we kept her busy!

My DAD spoke at Willow Creek this past weekend!

Last week the "New York Times" contacted me and my brother, Adam Durso about how we use Twitter in the Church. Adam and I both did a phone interview with NY Times writer Paul Vitello. Religious groups are answering many such questions for themselves — and, for the most part, signing up for interactive media, said the Rev. Bill Reichart, a Presbyterian minister in Atlanta who leads an informal network of Web consultants who work with people of a broad spectrum of faiths.

“If total control is what you want, social media will frustrate you,” he said, reprising his advice to the clergy. “But the trade-off is the ability to hear and learn, reach out in new directions.” Many clerics, desperate to connect with young people, have been like radio dispatchers using the wrong bandwidth, he said. “The young don’t do e-mail anymore,” he said. “They do Facebook.”
Evangelical Christian ministers were among the earliest Web networkers, and today, popular preachers like Rick Warren and Joel Osteen have thousands of followers on Twitter. At Christ Tabernacle Church in Queens, Pastor Adam Durso and his brother Chris, the youth director, keep in contact with their flock, sometimes hourly, on a half-dozen social media sites...

"Let the dead bury the dead"

Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God." - Luke 9:60 (NIV)

A couple of weeks ago i read this verse Luke 9:60 and as soon as i read it, i paused because i was stuck. See i've read this verse so many times while going through the gospels but I never really understood it. I never grasped what Jesus meant when he said this. So when I read it recently I had to pause because I couldn't keep going through life without knowing what this meant. I know this sounds drastic but for me it was. So the other night I had this thought, the only two recorded funerals Jesus ever attended was Lazarus's & his own and in each situation both end with resurrection. He brought life to them. The dead didn't remain dead, they were both brought back to life.

Thats when it hit me what Jesus meant when he said "Let the dead bury the dead", He's not apart of anything that death is the final outcome. He is life so he brings life. The verse doesn't mean not to attend funerals or mourn, but not to be entangled in situations that death is the final outcome. Since we are his representatives then we need to represent life because he is life. So proclaim his kingdom because that kingdom is where life was created.

See Jesus wept out of compassion for Lazarus's family but he always knew he would flip this unfortunate death around for his glory. You may be dealing with a deadly situation in your life but No matter what it is, we are to go and speak of the kingdom of God. Please don't make light of the situation, shed light on it! But if God is not reviving that thing, relationship or opportunity then just leave it alone.

So ask yourself, "Am I apart of anything that is producing death? Does God want to bring life to the situation?"

If not keep it moving, be about life and let the dead bury the dead.

MISFIT ED (Extended Description)

We at Youth Explosion are about to release the "MISFIT ED (Extended Description)" through IE (Intelligent Design). This ED is to "educate" & introduce the world to what a "MISFIT" (one who is uncomfortable with their surroundings) is. We felt it would be a good follow up after just releasing the "MISFIT EP".

The ED will consist of 3 sermons on being a MISFIT:

1. "Reaching a generation of creators, thinkers & MISFITS."

2. "MISFIT vs. MISFIT"

3. "MISFITS go where the wild things are!"

This past Friday was Youth Explosions: "Misfts go where the wild things are". From the beginning to end, the night was incredible. The building was packed out well over 1500 young people. Jovita Shapherd & Manna kicked off our 10 min countdown mini concert w/ an incredible job. Then we had Ray Rock, RED, Magellan & Mia Hunt do an original song "Where the wild things are" and just brought the energy to another level. We blasted off from there to the 350 voice YE mass youth choir to ORAIA w/ YE dance team and then Bishop Hezekiah Walker lead us in worship, he brought the house down. I was then privileged to speak on "Misifts go where the wild things are". We spoke about David & Goliath. David wasn't scared of Lions, Goliaths, bears and if there had been tigers there, he wouldn't have been scared of them either!

Here is a sneak peak of the brand "Misfit" t-shirt that is coming out next month, March 27th. The T-shirt will be released at Youth Explosion's "Where the wild things are!". The night is totally inspired by the children's book "Where the wild things are". The night will be more of a experience then a concert, w/ special guest Bishop Hezekiah Walker leading an unplugged worship set and backing him is the Youth Explosion Mass choir. RELOAD was this past Saturday Jan 17th @ Christ Tabernacle. If you missed Im sorry because it was amazing. We had over 800 Youth Leaders / Youth Pastors in the building. It was so great for everyone to be together as a family, regardless of denomination or race. We got to hear from UWYI founder Larry Acosta, Dr. AR Bernard, Ron Luce, The Ambassador, Adam Durso, Pastor Harvey Carey, Bo Boshers, Virginia Ward, Pastor Patrick Pierre, Jeremy Delrio, and so many more great leaders. The Youth Explosion Tri-state ensemble was mind blowing headed up by my boy James Morales. Ralph Castillo & Katy "Oaria" Coffman were the best host. "Youth Explosion's" YOUTH Choir was featured on the first 3 episodes of BET's brand new show; 106 & Park's: "Generation Gospel" as the house choir. "Mary, Mary", "Da Truth" & "Kirk Franklin" were also on the show. These pictures were from the 1st episode which was last sunday at 11 am. The next 2 Episodes will be Sundays, Jan 18 & 25, 11AM. "Beloved" or "Almost Lover" ?

I was watching TV the other day and came across a music video for a song called “Almost Lover” by the band “A Fine Frenzy”. The song talks about a relationship between two lovers that almost happened. Even though the song is secular, it sparked a thought of the true relationship between Christ and man, beloved and lover, and what can cause the break up between the two.

One line in the song that sticks out so strongly to me is, “I never want to see you unhappy and I thought you want the same for me.” I started to think of how men and women have allowed so many empty and meaningless things to separate them from God. If you were to ask a Christian, “Would you want to make Christ unhappy?” they would probably give you an answer like, “No way” or “Who would want to do that?” Then, they would look at you like you were crazy and walk away. The crazy thing is we upset and hurt God every day by allowing anything to get in the way of our relationship.

Once we allow whatever that may be that catches out attention, we start to neglect our lover. He is there waiting for us like in Song of Solomon 5. He is there waiting and knocking at our door but we procrastinate and tell him to wait and that we are not dressed. You can tell when you’re reading the very dramatic story that the women is running around her room looking for something decent to wear because she did not want her lover (God) to see her undressed. She is talking to him through the door and trying to keep him there while she gets dressed but when she finally opens the door he is gone. At that point she could have went back to sleep but she doesn’t. She runs through the city and gets abused by the city guards but does not stop until she finds her lover. You know when you read the story that we (mankind) are the woman and God is our lover. We start to think “Am I a good or at least a decent lover? Am I intimate with Christ? When he knocks am I ready or do I have to try to get ready?”

I deal with youth on a daily basis and see time and time again, young people fired up to live for God but then they allow a relationship, whether it be romantic or platonic, to come between them and God. It’s either caused by their own desire to fit in, to have a significant other or being pressured by their peers. Either way they have allowed something to come in between their marriage with God. The sad thing is that it’s all rooted in the same thing- not knowing in whom or where to place your emotions.

When you think of the over all picture you would probably say that the right thing for me to do is to stay with God because he should have all of me. However, when caught up in the love triangle between you, them and God, we usually pick them or ourselves. Our emotions are then out the window and wasted on empty promises. When you finally realize that you should have never neglected God, you just made it that much harder to live right for him. Peer pressure is not just something young people deal with. Our peers will pressure us until the day we die. You just need to decide now which one you love more, God or Yourself. By making this decision now, it will affect your overall relationship with God tomorrow and for the years to come. You need to start questioning your actions. Ask yourself, “Is this going to bring me closer to God or further away?” Then, when you start grabbing a hold of your situation, you are now able to make a clear decision; whether it is the right one or wrong one. So, please grab a hold of your life and your relationship with Christ so you don’t have to go running through the streets looking for God! Instead, you’re able to open the door when he knocks. It’s up to you today. Are you going to love Christ and live for him? Are you going to strive to become more intimate with him on a daily basis by staying in constant communication with him? Or are you going to reject him for something he never wanted you to experience in the first place? The truth is, while the answer is so simple yet so hard to live out, the outcome is priceless. It all boils down to this question… Are you going to have the privileged title of “Beloved” or the shameful name “Almost Lover”?

What do you do with a Gift?

This time of year you always hear the saying "Its better to give then to receive" which I totally agree with, but as Christians we should be living like this all year round and not just seasonally. We are asked to be living sacrifices, giving all of ourselves over to God with no say in the process. As honorable as that sounds, its easier said then done. It really matters how one values oneself. What I mean is if you consider yourself so valuable and feel that everyone needs to stare at you so they can bask in your ambiance then regardless the month you will never be able to grasp this concept. On the other side if you don't value yourself at all and think you have nothing worth gazing at then you will never be able to give. We need to understand that God has invested himself in us. We are uniquely designed as original pieces of art, painted to be adored by our maker. We each possess gifts, and what are you supposed to do with a gift?

Like most us of this time of year, I was thinking of the Christmas story. I started to fixate on the role of the 3 wise men AKA "The first gift givers to Jesus". I was just thinking of what they went through mentally knowing they would be the first to bring gifts to the future savior of the world, thats a lot of pressure! My thoughts;

1. Before they knew they were supposed to bring gifts to Jesus did they ever look at their possessions to be fit for a king?

You need to search inside yourself then ask God to show you what your gifting is, because you can be holding something valuable and not realize God wants you to give that to him.

2. Once they were told to bring these gifts to Jesus, they had no issue giving what they had.

The key word is "Give", too often it gets confused with "Display". Most people want to display how they were put together by showing off their insides and as a result they get this false sense of charity but the only charity was for themselves. They are to selfish to let go and want all the glory. The 2 can look the same but they feel completely different. Those people are easy to spot because ego is hard to hide.

3. They knew exactly how much to give to Jesus. They didn’t over pack, if they would have they wouldn’t have been able to travel.

Are you trying to do too much? All you need to do is bring what ever it is God tells you to bring and regardless the size, he will multiply.

4. They gave great gifts to Jesus from what they already had.

Are you trying to give gifts you don't have? Allow God to tell you what you should be doing for him and what you shouldn't be doing for him.

5. The wisemen knew they had to follow a guide in order to make it to Jesus, at the same time protecting the gifts they were bringing to him.

Make sure as you travel to bring your gifts to Jesus that you stay on the right path because if you get off track the gifts will never make it to him and either 2 things can happen:

A) You will try to bring what you have with the right heart, BUT you will just be in the wrong place physically, not aware God isn't where you are. You will be close to Bethlehem but in the next town over thinking you arrived never realizing you followed the wrong guide. – PAY ATTENTION.

B) You will loose sight of God and YOU will become your guide, then what started off as gifts will end up becoming you showing off what you have. Your gifts never fulfill their purpose.

Haggai 1:9 (New International Version)

"You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house.

What do you do with Gifts? You give them to the one who is going to appreciate it the most and get the most use out of them.

Make sure what you do in Jesus’ name is actually for Jesus’ name and not your own.
